Creative Block

‘Don releasing this week’, ‘Umrao Jaan releasing next week’, ‘Shooting schedule of Sholay delayed’. No, no, these are not headlines from the newspaper archives. These are very much the headlines of today. And so are the films.

Yes! You are right. These movies were hits years back. Or more so block-busters. And these block-busters are being re-made again. Why? Well, your guess is as good as mine. I guess all our film-makers are running out of their creative juices. Maybe all their creative veins are running dry. Or better still they want to mock the super stars and directors of the films. How else can one describe the ‘Remake an old flick’ phenomenon?

But I guess one can’t blame the new breed of film-makers. They fall prey to whatever is the latest happening genre of film-making. If a patriotic film clicks, all develop an affinity for the freedom fighters of the country. If one director makes people laugh then every one wants to tickle the funny bones of the audience. Barring a few, none have the required talent to make original block-busters movies.

So what else will they do but make a re-make. Full sympathies with the director and actors of the original films. Imagine their trauma of having to watch the characters they made life-like being torn apart right in front of their eyes. And them not being to do anything about it!

My small little uncomplicated brain

Seemed like a language I knew. But then, I could make no sense of what I was reading. Maybe I was not reading it properly. Maybe there was something wrong with my eye-sight. But no, I could read the words. I knew them, I even knew their meaning. But as a whole nothing seemed to be making any sense.

The problem was not my eye-sight, but my brain. It is a little under-developed. No, no I do not mean that I have a mental deficiency. It’s just that things written simple, straight to the point make sense to my brain. Complicated, big words make no sense at all. Complicated sentences are a big no-no for my brains. Whoa!! No, no I am not dyslexic either. Let me explain it a little better.

I have a small little brain, which understands small and simple things. My small little brain is just not accustomed to reading unnecessarily complicated stuff. Or rather understanding complicated stuff. Go into unnecessary complications and my brain just shuts off. My brain follows a straight path. If something goes round in circles or takes a complicated route, then my brain just refuses to budge from its place. My brain is that of a common person. It doesn’t try to be a genius. It doesn’t try to show how much of a language specialist it can be. Or how much of a subject expert it is. It is happy as long as I can speak the language and convey things properly. For my brain that is more than enough. So what if it does not match the so called genius brains. It helps me connects with the people, rather the masses. That for my brain is more important. And not trying to be a show-off. And when need arises it can also outdo the so-called genius brains. And yes, I am absolutely fine with this common brain of mine. I do not want a genius (or as I put it, an compliacted) brain.

Rocking the gods

“Zhalak diklaja….” they said. But then wasn’t he already here? I mean considering the fact that they were dancing because he was here. And then couple of days later they were convincing him that he was not in Pune but in Chinatown. Wow!! But till now I was of the opinion that he came from the heavens and that he stayed in the pandals and temples in the cities. And that mostly in India. Definitely not in China.

And more than anything else all this made me wonder whether his taste in music is also changing with times. And whether he is also keeping up with the changing trends. Looks like he is also of the opinion that since at present Himesh is in vogue, why not his music. After all last year, when Lord Ganpati was here it was the raunchy but very famous South Indian number that had appealed to him. Come to think of it, it’s been quite some time now, since the gods have decided to strictly stick to the latest happenings in music. Not only ganpati but all the gods and goddesses keep up with the changing music trends. Who cares about the artis anymore? So what if it is meant to be a religious festival. After all these songs are sung like artis nowadays. So maybe from next year onwards, we can start a new trend. Instead of the artis, let the greatest hit of that year be sung when performing the puja. Anywyas, it is during the few minutes of puja that we actually recite the artis. Other times it is the Himeshs’ and Tata Youngs' that keep everyone rocking. So might as well rock the gods with the same numbers and not make it an obligation to make him listen to the artis.

Disclaimer: This is my analysis of the situation and is not meant to hurt anyone's sentiment religious or otherwise.
