Creative Block Unblocked

After all the harsh words, I have a few words of praise. I sound like a hypocrite, but then I cannot help but be one at this point. After having seen the remake of Don I have to admit that directors haven’t lost their creativity completely.

With a lot of skepticism in mind I went to see the new Don. I was expecting a poor show. But the movie completely took me by surprise. I have to admit that I enjoyed the movie.

The international look and feel, sleek editing, good cinematography and decent performances by the actors are the plus points of the movie. Full credit must be given to Farhan Akthar for this attempt. Making a remake of a superhit and that too which featured the Big B was always a big challenge. And there was bound to be criticism (like mine). But the way he has treated the movie, goes to prove his mettle as a director. When the movie was announced even I had wondered why a talented director like Farhan Akhtar had to make a remake. But he has done justice to the movie. The first few weeks’ collections will justify this.

But the movie has not gone down well with the critics. They are comparing it with the old Don. Yes, there are places where comparisons with the original are bound to be there.

But look at it like a new movie all together. And you will not come out of the theatres disappointed.

I do not imply that I will appreciate all the remakes or that I will enjoy all the remakes, but the next time round I will go with an open mind and without prejudices!
