A year gone by...

It’ll be a year. A year since 26/11. A year since the deadly strikes that left many dead and a whole nation scarred. No one will forget those deadly and terrifying 70 odd hours. Where we saw how vulnerable our cities were. Where the loopholes, corruption and flaws of our system and our government were brought to fore.

It’s been a year now. Have things changed in this one year? Have we learnt from our mistakes? To a very small extent we have. Atleast now intelligence tips don’t go completely unnoticed...or so we assume and more so hope. Atleast some amount of the population have started looking at elections as a means to make their lives secure and better and taking voting seriously.

We saw some of the best of our officers going down on call of duty during the terror strike. We came to know how ill-equipped and under-trained our force was to handle such situations. One year down the line we still do not see any specific training or departments shaping up to handle such situations. Nor do we see any changes as such in the equipment or infrastructure of our forces. On the contrary we see the forces being treated as badly as they were. An example of this is the force guarding the Gateway of India.

It’s also been a year since one terrorist was captured alive. His trail is progressing but not at the pace it should have.

We still don’t talk hard with our neighbours and we still let them get away with their random accusations.

More than anything else we do not see any change in the attitudes of our politicians. If they think that like other instances people have a short-term memory, they might be mistakes. Because this is one event no Indian will forget. And none would want to see a repeat of such an incidence ever again.

No one should forget the brave one's who risked their owns lives to make our lives safe.

Nothing has changed so far, I feel we are still where we were before 26/11..same inefficiency and same disrespect for life of the citizens. Have you seen the video @ http://europenews.dk/en/node/24746
produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Dan Reed. Just came across your blog while goggling. Really a must read blog.
