Creative Block

‘Don releasing this week’, ‘Umrao Jaan releasing next week’, ‘Shooting schedule of Sholay delayed’. No, no, these are not headlines from the newspaper archives. These are very much the headlines of today. And so are the films.

Yes! You are right. These movies were hits years back. Or more so block-busters. And these block-busters are being re-made again. Why? Well, your guess is as good as mine. I guess all our film-makers are running out of their creative juices. Maybe all their creative veins are running dry. Or better still they want to mock the super stars and directors of the films. How else can one describe the ‘Remake an old flick’ phenomenon?

But I guess one can’t blame the new breed of film-makers. They fall prey to whatever is the latest happening genre of film-making. If a patriotic film clicks, all develop an affinity for the freedom fighters of the country. If one director makes people laugh then every one wants to tickle the funny bones of the audience. Barring a few, none have the required talent to make original block-busters movies.

So what else will they do but make a re-make. Full sympathies with the director and actors of the original films. Imagine their trauma of having to watch the characters they made life-like being torn apart right in front of their eyes. And them not being to do anything about it!
