Fanaatic

Fanaatic but not fantastic. That can be said not only for the politician’s move of banning Fanaa in Gujrat, Yashraj films tussle with the multiplexes for screening the movie but also for the movie itself. In the end what mattered most is the biggest disappointment.
Expectations were high especially after all the controversies. But turned out to be a big dud. Inspite of Aamir Khan and the talented Kajol’s presence, the movie fails to impress. The movie fails to convey anything. In fact, makes you wonder what the writer and the director were trying to convey, if at all. It starts off nicely and just when you begin to get involved, the film veers in the usual Yashraj formula direction. Of undying love. But then to think of it, even that has not been conveyed properly this time round. The magic of that also is missing. You don’t feel any emotions for the lead pair. You just want the movie to end. And it ends in a very expected manner as well. The end does not shock you or leave you with any emotions. It’s good in bits and pieces. But as a whole not very interesting. Remember DDLJ or more recently Hum-Tum? These films managed to touch a chord. Somewhere down the line this film does not appeal at all. It leaves you disappointed. After all with two of India’s most talented actors in the movie, one talented director; great producer, a little better was expected. Or should it be said that too many good cooks spoil the broth!
